North Star Award by Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center

North Star Award serves as testament to firm’s partnership and commitment to the growth of Thompson Island Outward Bound’s Connections Program

Boston, April 12, 2019 – Acadian Asset Management, a leader in global and international quantitative investing, is proud to announce that the firm has been honored with The North Star Award on behalf of Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center, a Boston-based non-profit organization dedicated to closing the achievement and opportunity gaps facing Boston middle schoolers, through hands-on field science, character development, compassion and service.

The award, which was presented at the Thompson Island Outward Bound’s Evening Expedition Gala this week in Boston, honors the strength, integrity and leadership of companies who have served as a true strategic partner with the organization in the development of students’ skills in working effectively with others and improving academic achievement.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by Thompson Island Outward Bound for our partnership and efforts supporting the organization,” said Ross Dowd, co-CEO of Acadian. “The work Thompson Island Outward Bound is doing for Boston Public School Students to close the achievement and opportunity gap is a powerful mission and we are honored to partner with them in providing an enrichment opportunity that is invaluable to the development of Boston’s youth and will help pave the way for future successes in the classroom and in life.”

Acadian has been working closely with the island for nearly two years, as part of a strategic, multi-year and high-impact partnership including Acadian’s commitment to funding and following 100 Boston middle school students for four years from Young Achievers School who participate in Thompson Island Outward Bound’s Connections program. As part of the program, students spend time with instructors on the island, in the Boston Harbor and back in the classroom, undertaking more challenging tasks to build academic and social-emotional skills. Acadian employees also work closely with the school through volunteer labor on the island and helping the organization problem-solve strategic challenges.

“Acadian takes a very deliberate, intentional and thoughtful approach to philanthropy, and we are honored to be one of the organizations that the firm has committed to supporting,” said Arthur Pearson, President & CEO of Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center. “Acadian is more than a corporate sponsor, they are part of the fabric of the Thompson Island family. We are grateful for their continued partnership and believe that together we can open doors for our youth, develop the workforce of the future and reignite the promise of public education.”

Acadian’s philanthropic mission is to partner with innovative high-impact organizations in local communities to give people the skills, educational opportunities, and financial resources to positively impact their lives.
