Acadian in the Community

Black History Month

February 18, 2021

In celebration of Black History Month, we are sharing stories of progress and the importance of “looking back to move forward.” Acadian welcomed Jhana Senxian of The Guild Boston and Tony Van Der Meer, PhD of UMass Boston to a virtual panel with co-CEO John Chisholm on the contributions and history of local Boston communities. Jhana and Tony shared their experiences as local leaders and activists, and where they see space to shift the landscape for Black Americans in ways both big and small. This was a powerful conversation on how ‘bottom-up,’ transformational change can start with providing communities right here in Boston with practical support, tools, healthier engagement, opportunity, and empowerment.
