We were thrilled to attend last week’s Partners Reception welcoming the UNCF Lighted Pathways interns to Boston for the summer! The Lighted Pathways program aims to increase representation of Black investment professionals in our industry, one opportunity at a time. Inauguration of New England Summit for CEO Action

Thompson Island 4k Trail Run

Members of Acadian’s team traveled to the island last week for this fantastic event, enjoying the trails, some team-building, and a night of giving back to our community. This week, we concluded our Women' s History Month celebration with a panel discussion sponsored by Acadian Women’s Forum. We were delighted to welcome Marcelia Freeman and Isis Ortiz-Belton to our Boston office for a Women Making History panel, joining Acadian’s Tara Norton, SVP and Director of Alternative Asset & Treasury Operations, to discuss their careers, how they have tackled various challenges along the way, and what it means to be a champion for other women. We are grateful for their insights and inspiration and will be listening to learn more from women leaders like them.

Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, we are sharing stories of progress and the importance of “looking back to move forward.” Acadian welcomed Jhana Senxian of The Guild Boston and Tony Van Der Meer, PhD of UMass Boston to a virtual panel with co-CEO John Chisholm on the contributions and history of local Boston communities. Jhana and Tony shared their experiences as local leaders and activists, and where they see space to shift the landscape for Black Americans in ways both big and small. This was a powerful conversation on how ‘bottom-up,’ transformational change can start with providing communities right here in Boston with practical support, tools, healthier engagement, opportunity, and empowerment.

Donation Drive with Thompson Island Outward Bound

Earlier this summer, Acadian held a donation drive to support our community partner Thompson Island Outward Bound. Employees had an opportunity to volunteer as well as donate needed gear to Boston Public School students attending a hands-on, immersive Summer Learning Expedition on the island. This is a 21-day program that incorporates outdoor challenges, science curriculum, and experiential learning. Essentials collected included reusable face masks, hand sanitizer, warm layers, and closed-toed shoes for students to be adequately prepared for their time on the island. UN’s International Day of Charity

In celebration of the UN’s International Day of Charity on September 5, we are taking time this week to spotlight some of the wonderful organizations Acadian supports around the globe. In the UK, our team works with Winston's Wish and The Honeypot Children's Charity, who provide children in crisis with a range of mental and physical health programs and services. Our Sydney-based team are longtime supporters of the Ngurra Jirrama Foundation, whose mission is to address the striking lack of educational opportunities available to young Indigenous Australians from remote areas of the country. In Singapore, our local office has worked with MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) for a number of years, supporting the important work they do to plug the gaps in social services programs and lift families out of poverty.
Inversant: Game Show Extravaganza!

Congratulations to our community partner Inversant for raising over $40,000 for non-traditional college students in last week’s Game Show Extravaganza! We were thrilled to be a part of this event, helping to spread the word about the important work of making higher education attainable for all. This year, Inversant is committed to supporting the ‘new-traditional’ student, a fast-growing segment of learners who typically don’t have access to standard educational pathways and are faced with financial, family, employment, and other obligations that can serve as barriers to obtaining a degree. In celebration of #earthday2021, Acadian has worked with The Arbor Day Foundation to plant 370 trees (one for each employee) in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The Arbor Day Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to reforestation where it’s needed the most and other vital conservation initiatives.

Acadian recently participated in Thompson Island Outward Bound annual 4k run/walk, this year with a virtual twist! Though Team Acadian ended up in first place for all three challenges, what we’re most proud is that the event raised over $50,000 to support students and instructors in building trusting relationships, processing challenges and learning valuable leadership and communication skills. We are proud to support Boston Scores new campaign, “Boston Moves” to benefit and support Boston youth during COVID-19. Through the end of August, Acadian participants will set a personal movement challenge each week to promote physical activity and ensure that Boston Scores students receive the recommended 60 minutes a day recommended by the CDC. Committing to community support through pandemic

At Acadian we are committed to supporting our #community, especially during challenging times. We were proud to support the following organizations as part of our COVID-19 crisis relief efforts: The Boston Resiliency Fund, Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), Casa Myrna, The One Chelsea Fund, and Off Their Plate. These groups are providing support from food and meal prepping for front line workers, to shelter for vulnerable individuals, to services and resources for those at risk of domestic violence.

Acadian UK joins 2.6 challenge

Acadian UK joined the 2.6 challenge this past Sunday to help charitable organizations negatively impacted by the loss of fundraising activity following the cancellation of the 40th London Marathon. Cradles to Crayons annual Backpack-A-Thon

Earlier this month, dozens of our colleagues had the chance to participate in the Cradles to Crayons annual Backpack-A-Thon. This incredible event brings together corporate volunteers from all over the city to fill more than 40,000 backpacks with school supplies, helping to prepare local children for the school year ahead.
