Position Overview
The QA Engineer is responsible for the continued testing, support and certification of Acadian’s proprietary asset management solution, its third party components, interfaces into and out of the system, as well as data conversions into the system. This person must work with QA Team Lead to establish and follow automation procedures to ensure that all projects selected for automation meet IT standards and end user requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review requirements, use cases, design specifications, project plans and technical documentation in order to write test cases.
- Work closely with Development, Business System Analysts and users to gather all information needed to write and execute comprehensive test cases.
- Write and execute both manual and automated test cases and suites.
- Assist in the development of automation standards relating to QA testing.
- Establish and maintain a library of automated test suites.
- Write and execute functional, system, and usability testing as directed by the QA manager. This requires the ability to work in a process-oriented manner, ensuring that test plans, test scripts, test cases and scenarios are created and adhered to. The role covers the testing of new and modified objects.
- Document defects found during testing, analyze the test data, and prepare test summary reports. Maintain a defect tracking log.
- Verifies defect correction and performs regression tests against the larger application where appropriate.
- Certify applications for production use.
- Collect and create testing data necessary to run test plans.
- Evaluate and interpret end user information requirements to develop appropriate system and application test cases.
- Provide both oral and written status reports.
- Conduct Peer Reviews of test plans and test cases of other QA team members.
- Assist Release Manager in creating release notes and making the release available to users.
Qualifications
- Flexibility in operating within a dynamic highly fluid environment
- Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft .NET
- SQL, Microsoft Access, SQL Server
- Microsoft Office suite
- ASP, ASP.NET
- Knowledge of at least one source control tool with preference for Visual Source Safe or Perforce
- Automated testing tools, e.g. Rational, Load Runner, Test Director, Mercury
- Strong understanding of configuration management tools
- Broad knowledge of technology development, infrastructure and support environments
- Scheduling and time management
- Experience in financial industry, preferably in asset management and investment
Bachelor’s degree is required. This person must have 5 to 8 years of experience working in Quality Assurance with 3+ years in automation, preferably in a financial services company. Proven knowledge of a standard software quality assurance methodology, components, deliverables, and how these integrate within the software development lifecycle is required.
The successful candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills, broad automation experience, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. This person should be motivated and able to learn new technologies quickly.
